Updated Cydia Phone Won't Start
Going through my daily Cydia updates had notices of 2 updates so i routinely update to stay current. Today when i did so essentially i can get my phone to do is show the apple logo when trying to turn it on. Updates was some sort of substrate as best i recall and yellowsn0w update. Like normal it ask to reboot which i did but now all i get is the apple logo. Desperation took me to itunes hoping i may be able to restore and start over but here's the catch, itunes won't even recognize the phone. Tried hard reset, still just the logo which disappears in a few seconds. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

I was on 3.0 and did some updates on Cydia yesterday and got into this state as well. The updates were MobileSubstarte and some other apps. I could restore but I would like to avoid that as I have too much stuff in the phone that was never backup-able because they were random docs,PDFs that I dumped onto the phone manually. Any idea how can we workaround this?
The phone starts up with the f'ing apple logo, then shutsdown after a few sec.

Could be mobilesubstrate then....F'ed....i hardly update due to this sorta problem (previously it was SBSettings, now this..duh).......just suck I did that, now I gotta nuke the whole phone...man...this phone is getting onto my nerve, would've been so much better if there are no ******* restrictions and **** that requires jailbreaking.

Had this problem today and did exactly what you did. I'm pretty sure its the mobilesubstrate stuff. This happened also last time Winterboard started ******* up all our jailbroken iPhones. Only way to fix it was to restore AGAIN.

I did the update yesterday too, and after the update it took a LONG time to boot, thought I was going to have to restore. It finally booted after what seemed like 3 or 4 minutes, and is working fine. 3GS 3.1.2

same thing happened to me.i have a 3gs 16gb running 3.1.2. the phone is in recovery mode but i cant restore it. it keeps saying
"The iphone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9)"
i have looked all over the net for a solution. the only solution posted is to try another computer or usb port. nothing works. i even tried installing itunes on a new computer, no dice. Is there a iphone utility program that will reset the phone to factory settings not using itunes? i would like to save this phone because it has ghost armour.
thanks in advanceLast edited by rlin0997; 11-11-2009 at 04:07 PM.

Same thing happened to me, had to put the phone in DFU. and restore. Which of course gave me 4.0 learning to downgrade was fun. I've ignored the upgrade.

In my case it just took the phone almost 5 minutes to boot after the initial update. Afterwards it has been fine.

Try Reboot, DFU mode, (Hold power + home button for 10 seconds then let go of power but still hold the home for another 10) and then try restoring or restarting,) give it a day, or two. try these steps again u each day. if it still wont turn on... make sure you CANT turn it on what so ever... then bring it in to apple... happend to my ipod touch 2g a while ago as long as they cant turn it on at the genius bar... youll get a new one. at the end of the day apple would wrather give you a new one then waste alot of the apple techinsions time trying to fix it... but if they do turn it on in the genius bar... good luck
