So, my 3GS has '41' in the serial number...
So should have the new iBoot, right ?
Well it jailbreaks fine and I can reboot no problem.
I read on a few posts that anything higher than week 40 can only be tethered jb at the moment so what gives ? Have I just fallen lucky ?
What are the tethered/non tethered iBoots and how do I check which I have ?
Cheers,
Malty

You've just been lucky.
You can check your iBoot version by using USBView. Do a search for a guide for it.

I too have a week 41 phone. I said what the hell... I'm around a computer 99% of the time. I hit make it rain and luck is what came down on me. I can reboot all day long. I have been smiling for the last 45 minutes.

I've been reading some more and the general opinion is that some week 40's and ALL week 41 phones are the new iBoot, so I don't know if mine was old stock or something but it is definately week 41 on the serial number and came otb with 3.1.2 and 05.11.07
I initially used blackra1n to jailbreak and was running on that for a week without problems. When blacksn0w came out I had some problems with endless reboots and sometimes no wifi so now i'm running a pwned 3.1.2 with blacksn0w and everythings happy
reboots no problem without tethering

just checked and my iBoot is definately the 'old' one
happy days..
my understanding is that 359.3 = good and 359.32 = bad

I looked at my Apple USB drivers and the properties don't contain the info you are displaying.
You got there through - System->Device Manager->USB Controllers?????

I also have a week 41 phone came loaded with 3.1 updated to 3.1.2. Don't know if i have the new bootrom or not. I put the phone in dfu mode and it is recognized by itunes. When i check its properties in device manager it only lists the serial number and imei number says nothing about iboot. Don't know what im doin wrong. Thanks in advance, Steve

Try using USBView to look for the number.
1. Put the phone in DFU mode.
2. Launch USBView.exe
3. In USBView, enable Config Descriptors
4. In USBView, hit 'refresh'
5. In the USB list, find the spot that says 'Apple .. Driver ..'
There, you should be able to find the iBoot version which will probably either read 359.3 or 359.3.2, the latter being the new bootrom.

I also tried USB view but it also had no info in there for the bootrom just the serial and imei numbers.

Ok I just did the jailbreak on my phone and it works perfectly...week 41 phone and it's not tethered no probs turning off and rebooting or the battery dying and restarting...one thing was jailbreak would not work on a comp with 1.1 USB ports but worked fine on 2.0 USB

may I ask, that iBoot version is based on iTunes version? How will it be upgraded? If I upgrade my iphone firmware, will it upgrade the iBoot version?
