Stuck on 'Contacting the iPhone activation server'
Hi all, I'm currently trying to upgrade my firmware from 3.1 to 3.1.2 and then run blackra1n. When I plug my iPhone in, iTunes prompts me to upgrade but gets stuck on 'Contacting the iPhone activation server'.
I've let it sit there for over an hour, without progress.
Any ideas what I need to do?
I've also tried the SHIFT+Upgrade / SHIFT+Restore route, with the same result.
Thanks so much

Is your internet working? I'm not trying to be offensive and call you dumb or anything I am just wondering. Could be an internet issue...that's what it seems like. What version of iTunes are you using?

Did you try to edit the HOST file before? You know, Sauriks server in order to be able to downgrade? If so you couldve messed something up there.

@Anniex423 No no, no offense taken, I'm pretty dim in all fairness! In this instance however, I can confirm my internet connection is fully enabled, and I also tried temporarily disabling my firewall, without luck.
I'm using the latest version of iTunes (v9.02).
@jltdhome - I've not messed with any sort of unlocking or jailbreaking before now, so nothing's been changed.
Any suggestions?

It sounds like a firewall issue. Do you have any security software running? like Norton or something, if so turn it off real quick, at least while you restore.

Have you tried to use shift+restore instead of upgrade? Try to find a download for fw 3.1.2 and use shift+retire then select what you downloaded and see what happens.
Sorry I just reread your original post I forgot you said that didn't work. I'll see what I can figure out.Last edited by i.Annie; 11-10-2009 at 02:09 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
