"No Service" After Ultrasn0w
I just bought a 3g off Craigslist.
When I got the phone, it was Jailbroken, and Ultrasn0w was already installed. Yet I still got "No Service". (i'm using tmobile btw)
This is what I tried:
1. Restored firmware to 3.0,which is what it was running when I got it
2. Jailbroke with Redsn0w
3. Reinstalled Ultrasn0w via Cydia
Still I get a "No Service" message.
I've tried airplane mode off and on, 3g off, SIM in and out, rebooting, etc.
Also tried repeating steps 1-3 many times.
Hardware failure?

Check the version of your iPhone 3G's "Modem Firmware" in Settings -> General -> About.
In order for "Ultrasn0w" to work your Modem firmware (baseband) needs to say "04.26.08". If it says "05.11.07", then it explains why UltraSn0w is not working and is probably not installed. You have two options:
1) Wait for Geohot's release of Blacksn0w on Nov 4th. Oh Wait, he changed the release date to today Nov 3rd at 12:00pm (noon). This guy is really good. Blacksn0w is an unlock solution that works with baseband 05.11.07. Read his blog page for more details at On the iPhone
- Restore firmware 3.1.2 in iTunes
- Download Blackra1n RC3 from blackra1n after Nov 3rd 12:00pm.
- Run Blackra1n to jailbreak firmware 3.1.2 from your desktop computer. It's very easy. You just click "Make it ra1n".
- Once it is done and your iPhone 3G boots up, click on Blackra1n on your iPhone screen (2nd screen) and make sure you select "Cydia" and "Sn0w". You may have to do it one at a time.
My guess is the craigslist seller accidently updated his firmware to 3.1, which upgraded the BB to 05.11.07. He discovered that he could no longer unlock his phone, so he tried to cover it up by restoring it back to 3.0. Unfortionately, the baseband can not be rolled back, except if you have one of the few iPhone 3G's with bootloader 5.08.
Good luck and let me know how you make out.Last edited by reddawg; 11-03-2009 at 03:57 AM.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
It was running the 04.26.08 baseband.
Also, I just tried to downgrade the firmware to 2.2.1, and also I download the baseband with fuzzy to the right baseband for yellowsn0w. Tried yellowsn0w after all that and exact same issue. "No Service"
Then I just did a restore of firmware 3.0, running baseband 04.26.08. Same issue.
Anyone else think this is a hardware issue?
I've spent the last 11 hours on this.
I'd like to think upgrading to 3.1.2 then using GeoHot's new program will solve it, but I'm not so hopeful.
Thanks again for replying.
Oh and Fuzzy told me my Bootloader, it is infact 5.08.
UPDATE:
Left SIM in phone for an hour, all sudden I get full bars, and phone is working fine.
Will update again cause I'm not confident this will stick.
UPDATE 2:
Back to "No Service"
I love it.
For anyone following this/who has a similar issue:
I AM getting a connection now and can make/receive calls...but once I reboot my phone, it takes the SIM about 20 solid minutes before it's recognized. After that 20 min, everything is normal, but if I reboot again...same thing, another 20 min I have to wait.
Weird but I guess it technically works.Last edited by dc1984; 11-03-2009 at 01:56 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Did you try restoring to 3.1.2 and using Blackra1n?

I would try reseting your Network Settings, then re-enter your APN settings, MMS settings and turn off "Enable 3G".
Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings
Avoid "Erase all settings" and "reset all settings". I have heard complaints that these options bricked some JB iPhones. I have never tried these two, so I can't comment on whether it is true. I have tried "Resetting Network Settings" and that is safe and fixed problems that I was having with WiFi.
If this doesn't work, you can always try restoring a clean 3.1.2 firmware, then jailbreak and unlock it using geohot's Blackra1n RC3, then install the Blacksn0w unlock.
Based on your problem and what troubleshooting steps you have taken, I don't think jailbreaking and unlocking with Blackra1n / Blacksn0w will solve your problem. Either you have a hardware problem, or a compatibility issue with an old T-Mobile SIM or just a bad T-Mobile SIM. I had a really old T-Mobile SIM that gave me problems back when I was using firmware 2.2 and Yellowsn0w (about 9 months ago). I had T-Mobile replace the SIM. This resolved my problems.
You might want to check your SIM tray to make sure it is seating your T-Mobile SIM properly once it is inserted. If the person who sold you the iPhone 3G used Gevey or Rebel SIM unlockers in the past with older firmwares, they can cause damage because of their thickness and cause a problem where your iPhone does not always read your SIM.
