Ok I was erasing and clearing my 2g unlocked to give to a family member. I went to settings, general, and clicked erase all media etc. Waited the two hours and when it wad done I expected it to reboot. Didn't happen. It's stuck on the apple pinwheel of death screen. It just hangs there, turns itself off and tries to reboot. Nothing. Did I do something wrong? It was jailbroken and unlocked on 3.0 before this happened. I tried to restore it and it would say error 1611. Can I recover it or is this now a brick?
Yesterday and early this morning for me was he'll, sort of bcause my itouch was bricked after using blackra1n on my laptop and on top of that it was jailbroken and I didn't kno how I could revive the device. I got super luky and used my regular 3.1.2 firmware and it worked and I exited out of jailbroken state also with cydia app 5 column still on my itouch suprisingly. My suggestion is to shift-restore with ur firmware u had before if iTunes recognizes ur itouch in order this way.
1. Plug in itouch if blackscreen and not working(do not put in dfu, unless it's ur only option for second try
2. Shift- restore with firmware u had before unlock
3. Then a message will say something like" do u want to restore with this firmware". Clik yes
4. All of a sudden u should see a white screen( unexpectedly did for le on my second try.
5. Wait till it verifies and restores. If it did help, enjoy pressing the thnx button. Mine was also bricked and this solution worked for me and I hope it works for u and others also. Hope it goes well : - )
I tried restoring. Followed all the steps. And it will begin to restore then it will stop and give me an error message. Something like ERROR 1611. I was trying to restore it back to same firmwAre I used in unlocking/jailbreaking it.
Try using older version of iTunes but should work with the latest version
if you have a black screen that is not responding to any action then it's in dfu mode already…
better way is to put it into recovery mode by turning the phone then while plugging it into pc (make sure it's off) holding the home button till the iTunes and cable logo appear then try restoring to 3.1.2
Ok but won't updating/restoring it to 3.1.2 lock it back up? I thought 3.1.2 can't be unlocked? Or is it because my iPhone is the 2g I can be unlocked on 3.1.2?
Ok I managed to get it to restore to 3.0 while in recovery mode. It's now on the "plug into iTunes" "insert valid sim to activate.....". I put my tmobile sim back in and it shows T-Mobile E in the left corner but doesn't go to the normal icon screen. I plugged it into iTunes and nothing happened. Did the phone lock back up? Do I need to re-unlock it? It was already unlocked last night. Which unlock should i try this time? I'm on a PC.
