New 3gs - black screen - can't reset
Just got a brand new 32gb 3gs with 3.1.2 otb.
Read the dev team blog, used pwnage 3.1.4 to build an ipsw and was restoring it via itunes.
However, I now have a phone with a black screen. Period. It never got past the initial apple.
I can't do a hard reset. When I connect the USB, itunes pops up and says the phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored.
Ok, but when I try to restore, I get an error 1600 and can't do squat. Apparently I'm in a black screen recovery mode that it just won't bump out of.
TIA
---
Tried to restore with the natural ipsw and it seems to have bumped me out of the black screen and I've got an apple. It did a 'verify with apple' and 'verifying iphone'. However, even after it seems to do a restore (apple logo, progress bar), it goes back to a black screen and itunes says it has a phone in recovery mode...
---
Is this something to do with the ECID? Can I get around this/how will the jailbreak work? The instructions on the dev team blog were pretty clear that it was possible and that AFTER the jb, I should get with saurik's server...Can I even just get back to a restored state?
I don't know for sure, or how to check this, but maybe my experience will help someone out.
I'm quite sure I've got one of those new fangled 3gs units that is unexploitable at the moment...I'm greatly distressed:/

Try putting it in DFU mode and then restore normally in iTunes.
To get it in DFU mode,
1. Hold down both 'Home' and 'Power' buttons for 10 seconds.
2. Release 'Power' button but keep holding the 'Home' button down for another 10 seconds.
The phone should now ask you to connect to iTunes. Afterwards, just restore normally.

Yeah, my previous posts on this all seem to go as one.
I've managed to get up and running normally (no jailbreak) by restoring directly via itunes to the factory state.
Like I had mentioned, I'm quite sure I've got an iphone that's not able to be jailbroken at this time...Or maybe I've just missed something completely...

Check out Blackra1n RC2. It's able to jailbreak the phones/touches with the new bootrom.
It'll be tethered, but at least it's a jailbreak.

You have to run blackra1n *EVERY* time the phone reboots. That's why it's called a tethered jailbreak.
So never be far from a computer with blackra1n on it if you have to turn your phone off.
*EDIT*
Even though that's how the process is explained, it really doesn't make any sense to me since the phone reboots after a jailbreak.

Of course it is still jailbroken - the phone WILL go to the itunes screen, just connect and run blackrain again and you'll be right back where you need to be. That's the tethered jailbreak. Works fine once you know what you're doing - you don't lose anything. And of course my phone is the latest everything - got it three days ago. Latest firmware, baseband, iboot. RC2 will jb everything.

Your edit of that post really fixes things up nicely for you, doesn't it...Care to be a douche about anything else?
