    Default Outta The Box Question

I wanna get a new 3Gs from Apple. Will the latest firmware on those in store phones be able to jailbreak and unlock? I think there firmwares ate 3.1.2 if not mistaken. Thanks.

It's not the firmware that you have to worry about it is the bootloader. You could get lucky and get one that is exploitable, but it is not guarenteed.

The iPhone 3GS serial number contains the week number it was manufactured in. Sometime in week 40, Apple updated the bootrom so it can not be jailbroken by PwnageTool or Blackra1n. Anything below week 40 is safe.

Digits 4,5 contain the week numbers. Format is:

    Serial No. 81839NAEY7H = Jailbreakable
Serial No. 81840NAEY7H = NOT Jailbreakable

This information came from a @MuscleNerd Tweet.
