jailbroken iphone locked and useless

ok i was trying to add a application to the phone using a iphone pc suite. it locked up and now it shows the apple screen and reboots on its own. i know the version it had was 3.0 or 3.0.1
i tried to use red snow to see if i could reset it and nothing
what i need to know is if i use itunes and restore it wont it update the firmware and if so is my phone factory and cant be
jailbroken and unlocked? or is there something i can do to try and wipe it clean then try. if so what program and what program can i view the files on the iphone that is differnt from what i have.

Is it a 3gs? Do you need the unlock?

Restoring using iTunes with an official firmware will indeed update the baseband version thus making it unlockable, at least in the case of a 3gs
