Default Just got iphone fixed, itunes won't recognize/restore

I was given an old original 2g iphone a few weeks ago. The connector was messed up and I just got it fixed. I had the phone jailbroken with pwnage tool and it worked fine except for the broken part (had to use rubberbands to get a connection!). I was using 3.0.1 I think.

I didn't realize that when they fixed the part they had to wipe everything and restore it. They installed a jailbroken 3.1.2 and everything seemed fine until I plugged it into my computer and it didn't show up in iTunes at all.

In the process of trying to fix this problem it seems to have gotten stuck in recovery mode. I tried to use pwnage tool to restore back to my old save. But then iTunes says that it cannot restore and I get a 1600 or 1611 error.

I found a trick to exit recovery mode but that doesn't seem to work now either. When I plug it in iTunes just says it is in recovery mode and I must restore. But then I get the error.

I think I am having a conflict with downgrading or something. I tried to use blackra1n but it says it won't work with this system, I assume because I am on OSX 10.4.11 and not Leopard. Plus I didn't understand if T-mobile would still work when I did that.

The store isn't open Sunday but I will take it back there if I can't figure it out.

Which version of iTunes are you using? If you don't have iTunes 9.0.1 already, go to Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now and download iTunes.

    1. Download iPhone 2G 3.1.2 firmware and save to your desktop as a .IPSW file. Don't use Safari, download this link with Firefox.

    2. Click shift and also click the Restore button in iTunes, select the IPSW file you downloaded in step 1.

iTunes should now start restoring your iPhone 2G to firmware 3.1.2! To jailbreak, just download blackra1n and then click the make it ra1n button to jailbreak.

Thanks Hans. I have iTunes 9.0, getting 9.0.1 now.

Do you have a link to a version of 3.0 firmware instead of 3.1? I could not get blackra1n to run with this version of OSX. Maybe I should upgrade from 10.4 already though.

If you have a Mac and blackra1n doesn't work, then try PwnageTool.

    1. Download PwnageTool 3.1.4
    2. Follow the on screen instructions, once PwnageTool has created your custom IPSW file you can restore that through iTunes.

looks like it worked!!! with pwnage tool. thanks so much. now to copy everything back over and enter all my e-mail etc info again.

i'm still curious as to why my computer wouldn't recognize it at all after i got it back from being fixed. it can't be because it was a different computer, right?
