My 2g had a wreck now need some help

Please don't think I have not tried to find these answers on my own. I have been the last two days googling,youtubing and searching on here.. So please someone answer these questions for me..I went to my local ATT store yesterday to confirm what firmware was on their 3gs phones they had in stock. It is 3.1
My question is this CAN I JAILBREAK this phone? I have read so many conflicting posts on it that I am now so confused I really don't know the answer. I know that blackrain only works on 3.2 but I don't know which (if any) works on 3.1..Please bear with me and try to help me.

no if its a new one as i think it is. u cant jailbreak new 3GS

so if I wait for them to get the ones with 3.1.2 I can jailbreak it but not the 3.1.. that ain't fair..LOL
