Default iPhone Virgin - Help Needed Unlocking/Jailbreaking!!

    Evening!

I've recently inherited an unlocked iPhone 2G (I believe it was from the US) - very exciting. It was a hand-me-down from the missus, as she had managed to get it repaired after some water damage. At first, the SIM wouldn't work, only seeing 'No Service', but the Wi-Fi worked fine. Went back to repair man, who installed 3.0 software. SIM was now working, but Wi-Fi was poor - literally had to stand with the iPhone on the router for it to pick up a signal. Thought I would be clever and install 3.1.2. I'm sure many of you are now chuckling at the novice I am.

Having known nothing about iPhones previously, I've now read up about jailbreaking and all the rest of it, but am stuck in a bit of a rut as to where to go and what I can do. At the moment, all I've got is the phone connected to iTunes, waiting to be activated and iTunes telling me 'The SIM card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported'. I need to use the handset with an Orange SIM card in the UK.

Not sure if i can jailbreak or unlock from where I am or if the phone has locked itself again as part of an upgrade... Anyone able to give me step-by-step instructions on what the hell I should do? Even just a skeleton outline with links to all the in-depth instructions would be a great help!

    Thanks!

    Dan

Your 2G is now locked and can only be used with the authorized carrier for your territory

You really only have 2 options now
    1) Use the phone on the official carrier for your territory
    2) Use it as an iTouch until there is a way to JB/Unlock the new baseband
2a) Use it as an iTouch until there is a "TurboSim" that will work with 3.x OS
