How to jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.2 using blackra1n

still not working. my prob seems to be getting it to boot twice while holding power/home. it only turns on and goes into recovery, unlike the post says it will reboot again then do the let go of power. i've made sure to hold the buttoms without letting go and it just gets stuck in recovery again without the second reboot. any ideas?

~edit~ i still dont have the carrier update installed from itunes, is this needed to use blackra1n? it is on 3.1.2 but without the new carrier update

All you gotta do is set the 2 options that I circled the way I have them set. To get the one in the popup window, it's Edit->Preferences->Devices tab

Honestly, you could probably get away with just unchecking the "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" option, but since I have 1 phone & 4 iPods that get connected to this laptop, the one in the edit preferences dialogue is the key for me.

There's absolutely no way that unchecking the boxes will make you lose anything already on the phone, simply because the phone will not sync, no sync means no data moves.

got it working and got geohot logo showing.. and after rebooting itself i got back to the Emergency Call screen!! how can get rid of it and access the phone?

Your phone was unlocked and when you updated to 3.1.2 you locked the phone, you need an official carrier to use it now.

iTunes App Store has some. Cydia does as well.

this DOES work... my phone locked up, and had to be updated and restored today (still had 3.0), so i was rather upset. took a few tries to get this to work, and was about to give up, and face appeared!

using windows 7, i AM using a local administrators account, but i did have the phone in airplane mode...

Your phone will finish restarting, but geohot will appear.

After numerous tries here is what I did based on SuperShags directions:

From this point
blackra1n will say "waiting on phone"

"Press and hold the power and home button on your iPhone

At this point I just powered up the iphone and let it go through normal startup. (I might of held down the home button here...)

Once it has started up, blackra1n continued to "recovery mode" which rebooted the iphone again.

During the reboot, make sure your holding down the home button until blackra1n status changes to "running". You can now release the home button and Geo screen should display.

From here, let blackra1n finish and you should be good to go.

This is what I could remember after trying to JB about 50 times. Hope this helps others out.

Guys i had the issue with it going straight to recovery.

DO THIS!

pretend like your doing redsnow or quickpwn...

Hold power for 3 seconds
right when it turns on hold both power and middle button
then the apple logo will pop up twice
then let go of power
recovery goes back on but after like 10 seconds geohot comes on

but it still doesnt work. when geohot comes on and it does its jailbreak orw hatever it still stays in recovery mode

For the 3G on 3.1.2, and blackra1n. Do this, IT WORKS !!!
Connect iPhone to PC, and power off. Hit power button to power back on.
As soon as you see the Apple, hit "make it ra1n". And watch the magic.
I've done this to jailbreak 7 3G iPhones.
Works Perfect .....

I have aquired a 3G with official 3.1.2, which means the baseband is updated. I understand that I will not be able to sim unlock. But other than JBing it with blackra1n, I still can't do anything. After it reset finally from seeing the geohot picture, it just goes back to the emergency call screen. I was thinking that I'd at least be able to get into the device to install cydia or something. Is there something I can do to get past that? The phone was never JBed before and I do not have a AT&T sim to put in it. I have a T-mobile sim.

I am going nuts on this blackra1n thing. I have tried like at least 100 times now....read all kinds of ways to make it runs. Even gone out to buy new usb cord.....I can't seem to do it.
