Hi,

Just received brand new iPhone 3GS with firmware version 3.0.1 (7A400) on it. I was actually surprised it did not have 3.1 firmware and was already expecting that I had to wait till my mobile number was ported to the new operator / a jailbreak for 3.1 is available.

But with 3.0.1 it might be possible to jailbreak/unlock it now, right?

I found the following page (iPhone 3.0.1) and from that I could download the 3.0.1 firmware for the 3GS (is that a reliable site?) Then I though i could use PwnageTool to jailbreak/unlock it, but the "Recycling Goodness" post of the Dev Team (Dev-Team Blog) indicates that I would need a 3.0 firmware file for it to work... and I have not been able to find that firmware yet.

I was also wondering if it would work at all without being able to upload the ECID file to Saurik site (since I only received the iPhone today)?

Anyone who can share some insights?

(be sure not to be using safari)

all you'll need to download is redsn0w .8, and the 3gs 3.0 firmware.

Run redsn0w, point it to the 3.0 software, and follow the directions. quite simple. be sure to NOT upgrade to 3.1, as you already know, you don't have your ecid files, if you upgrade your SOL.

and Even though you have 3.01, you MUST download and use the 3.0 firmware. And that's it!

U got lucky. Just got mine last week with 3.1 and I'm sad with no jailbreak
