Yea I had no luck with any of the rapidshare ones. They wasted a BUNCH of my time haha. I wish there was a way to tell a difference but I don't think there is. I bet those are from people who wanted to trick users into thinking they were good firmware versions. I dont know...just my thought haha.

What is icey about have you used that?

The last firmware I had installed both.

No, this does not unlock unfortunately. This is strictly for jailbreaking to 3.1
I never unlock so I am unfamiliar with the process for that. Someone else on here may be able to give you proper instructions for that. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

Icy same as Cydia except buggy. For best results, stay away.

It's awesome hearing success stories. Your right, it is a long process and it sucks that it has to be that way (for now) but like you said...a little patience and you can get it. Did you have many problems or was it pretty smooth for you?

Just wanted to take a second to say thanks to everyone who has used my tutorial. This is the first time I've written one. I apologize if any of it didn't make sense. I tried to make it as clear as I could. Writing it as I performed the process myself. I never expected to have such a high view count for it haha. I hope that most of you have used it and it has helped you out. For those of you who it hasn't worked out smoothly for...I'm glad you guys are starting to get it figured out!

Sorry to leave you hanging about the progress of the iphone hacking. After finding the correct firmware (iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore_WO_ACT.ispw was the filename but I can't give links cause its against the rules), I was able to complete the process by following the process exactly using iTunes 8.2.1.6. I have a signal and it's working great!

Ok so I used a Mac to create custom firmware and used the restoring method (with 3.0 fw). i have no signal on my phone and when i back everything up, it takes me to safe mode. can i restore another custom 3.1 fw again (to change a setting from pwnage when creating)? will it work?

still no cydia. do me a favor, what should i search for in google to find the right firmware 3.1? i'm hopeless. I believe I have the right 3.0 firmware but not the 3.1. this is the 3rd times I try ur tutorial.

Well if anyone is Canadian I have confirmed you will not eb able to have your phone using the following

Rapid share three files split
random bit torrent firmware search file name

iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore_W_ACT.ipsw

or

iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore.ipsw

Apparenlty our fix is,

iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore_WO_ACT.ipsw

It's 2am I'm 70% done the download and will be installing before I go to bed.

Jess this is my 6th restore LOL

Cydia was working fine for me!

Perhaps I'm misisng somthing.

once jailbroken do I have to unlock my phone for it to work as a phone?

Do I have to add my carrier in some how specify rogers?

^^If you're on the official carrier, you need an ipsw WITHOUT hacktivation.
Sounds to me like you were trying to restore to a hacktivated ipsw.

Only install ultrasn0w if you need to use it on an unsupported carrier.

Hello, how's it going? im also on the rogers network, ive been trying to jailbreak my phone as well and i used the file you listed 3rd that should work for us, but when it all loads up i still end up with a newly restored phone, yet i dont have cydia, i dont know what im doing wrong... any help?

I did after all, just want to make sure that i did the right thing...
