Bypass Apple Server to Cydia? Where is the etc/host located on Mac OS X
I've read the post by Saurek, about modifying the host file using Mac OS X...
/etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file.
74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Unfortunately, I can't find the "/etc/hosts" file on my Mac.
Where is it located on the HD?
Unfortunately, I am using 3.1 firmware on a 3G S iPhone.

Go to Finder
Hit the "Shift + Command + G" keys
Paste "/private/etc/" into the search window
Press enter
Go to the file named "hosts"
Open it in TextEdit.app with root permissions
Add the line "74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com" at the end of the file
Save it
However, I'm not sure how much (if any) good that is going to do you, since you're already on 3.1 with a 3G[s] iphone

1) Open Terminal
2) sudo pico /etc/hosts
3) Paste 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com at the end of the text
4) Ctrl-x to Exit
This is how I did mine
