help/advice needed urgently

hey guy's i'm pretty new to forums and i need an answer pretty quickly as i'm getting married in 2 hours and then of to the states on sunday.

i'm looking to buy an iphone while in new york and unlock it so i can use my o2 simcard in britain.

should i just go into an apple store and buy a phone and try and unlock it or should i look for a second hand one somewhere else?

from what ive read the 3.1 version cant be unlocked is this true or can it be done?

buying a 3GS is a pretty bad idea, cause you probably won't be able to unlock it. a 3G on the other hand can be unlocked.

oh and congrats, funny what people think about before they get married

^agree get a 3G if u don't care about voice control, accessibility and video recording that much and it can jailbroken & unlocked…3GS at this moment can't but you would get those features
