iphone 3G 2.2 to 3.01

Hi guys, i've been out of the jailbreaking loop for awhile so I just want to check before I start with this.

Do i have to worry about baseband being upgraded/any issues if i 1)use itunes to update into 3.01,
2)jailbreak with redsn0w with 3.0 firmware and
3)unlock with ultrasn0w?

alright, i've got a small(i hope) problem now.

I've jailbroken and unlocked without a hitch, but when i try to download a free app from appstore on 3G or wifi, appstore closes as normal to start downloading the file but then an error prompts stating 'Cannot connect to iTunes Store'

Youtube works though. I'm stumped. Help!
