Uh I'm lost. I just want to jailbreak the 3.0.1 for iPhone 3G...

Ok so I have the 3.0.1 firmware on my iPhone 3G. I've downloaded the Redsn0w program. I've also downloaded the 3.0.1 firmware... Why won't RedSnow recognize the file? It recognizes 3.0.

I have never jailbroken this phone nor pwned it. This is my first time.

What am I missing here?

Do I need to downgrade to 3.0?

No. When you run redsn0w for 3.0.1 and it asks you to browse for a firmware you have to select 3.0 NOT 3.0.1.

Ok so I jailbroke it. I can't get the sbsettings to work and.... I removed it from the sources list. How do I get it back?

The new SBSettings opens up differently than the old one did. You have to hold your finger on the status bar and swipe sideways to open it.

To get it to swipe the old way open it up and go to More > Extras & Options > More Sensitive Swipe > On

Yes... I think so? I went to "manage" in the Cydia app and I couldn't get the settings to work so I thought I'd reinstall it. Clicked on packages and removed two things (Big boss and Sbsettings I believe).

How do I download off of Cydia online? I just want to download SBSettings and reinstall it on the iPhone. Why is this so difficult???

In cydia go to Manage>Sources>Edit>Add then type that in.

Got it thanks. Now I'm trying to put 5 icons on the ... dock? springboard? I have to learn these terms!

The dock is the bar with the icons at the bottom of your homepage where the icons stay the same from page to page.
The springboard is basically the home page.
