3g[s] Jailbreak/Unlock Redsn0w vs. Purplera1n

So many of you have now jailbroken your iPhone 3g[s] with either Purplera1n or Redsn0w and then unlocked. This thread is to talk about the differences noticed between the 2 jailbreak methods, their ease of use, and their bugs and problems running the software. Please include your device and what OS you are using to Jailbreak. Did the jailbreak take? Did Ultrasn0w work?

I jailbroke with Purplera1n and it went well after I used a different computer.

Only thing I've noticed is that I don't have push notifications anymore...

did you hacktivate or just use at&t activation?

because usually hactivation is the reason push notifications doesn't work

I used both the first and second build of Purplera1n for my 3G S. They both worked perfectly fine. My phone was jailbroken in less then 4 minutes both times.

IMHO Purplera1n is the fastest and easiest jailbreak method I've ever used. I havent noticed anything not working yet. Push works fine as well.

Jailbroke with purplera1n rc2. Rc1 kept crashing on me. Winterboard works great.

Used Win and Purplera1n on 3GS everything works except can't
load SMS themes in Winterboard...anybody else ?

I used purplera1n rc2 on Windows XP. It was the fastest and easiest jailbreak ever. All worked perfectly except for 1 minor glitch:

I’m a legit AT&T customer as well as MobileMe. After jailbreaking my 3GS, push no longer worked with MobileMe.

I was able to fix it by going to Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings and then deleting and recreating my mobileme account on the phone. Perhaps one of those steps wasn’t necessary, but it wasn’t alot of effort and it worked.

Purplera1n RC1 and RC2 worked good for me, and since Saurik updated mobile substrate for cydia and other apps everything seems stable, I've not tried push as I don't use any push enabled apps yet.

however these things take time to settle down as everyone is in catch up mode, quite happy to sit tight with what I have and hope that it all works again when 3.1 comes out

all of you that say push is working... it aint on the newest push app... prowl which can be set up for gmail push.

if i j/b my 32 3gs and i need to bring it back to apple for repair can i always go back to itunes and restore to factory seting

can someone help please i`m new here

I jailbroke with Purplera1n rc2. Everything is working fine except for one minor detail. I got the sMe problem as "skyeking69". My SMS Themes will not work with winterboard either.

iPhone 3GS 16gig on 3.0
Win vista 32bit

Purplerain RC1

Worked great after I read the instructions and was jailbroken <5 mins.

May check out redsn0w next time I need to do a restore, but fine w/ purplera1n for now.
