Can't restore in itunes

After successfully upgrading my 2G iphone to 3.0FW (eventually) my daughter has decided she'd like hers doing to!

So, I click on restore on itunes and it downloads the file but when the download finishes I get the following message:

'There was a problem downloading the software .......you do not have enough access privileges for this operation. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active or try again later'

I do have a network connection and I am running this as an administrator in windows vista.

I the tutorial for unlocking and jailbreaking it says you MUST restore using itunes first but can't I do a 'shift - restore' and use the downloaded 3.0 fw from the downloads section of this site?

Any help would be appreciated.

Saw a report that if you reset your modem it might fix the issue.
