Default sbsettings - WiFi & EDGE - Advise needed

Hi - My iphone connects to my house WiFi when Im home which is what I want however my phone provider is quite expensive with their Data Plans so I was advised to load sbsettings onto my iphone 3G (3.0 firmware). Can someone advise me how it actually works as I thought I could switch off the Data when I dont need it but it still connects to the internet & downloads emails when Im away from my home WiFi signal.

Is there a way of switching off data completely when I dont want it or does it just switch to Edge when my house Wifi is out of range?

Lastly, is it ok to leave 3G on and just turn off EDGE or do they both have to be switched off to stop connecting to EDGE?

    Thanks

The 3G, EDGE, an WiFi toggles are not dependant on each other. Enbable/disable each individually as desired
