Just thought I would post here for someone to clarify.

I've been reading that there is no jailbreak as of yet for the 3GS. I was just wondering why that is. Isnt the 3GS running the same operating system as all the other 3.0 iphones out there now?

I'm assuming something must be different. Does anyone happen to know what that is? I guess there is no rush or anything, but I look forward to jailbreaking the 3GS like my touch

Yes the 3GS is running the same OS but it has different hardware specs and other features. I would assume that is why.

New hardware. The hardware + OS = vulnerabilities, ones that the dev team were finding/using. Since it's a new platform for the OS to be operating on, they'll have to obtain a 3G(s) to poke & prod, till they find what they need to allow the jailbreaking.

The problem right now is that there are only a few of the devs who actually have a 3GS. Many don't qualify for an upgrade or are on an unofficial carrier. I have a line on my business account that still qualifies for an upgrade. I am putting some cash together to donate it. It takes a lot of people working the jailbreak to make it happen quickly.

Just a thought....

I would think that there is a way to enable some of the 3GS software on the 3G. For example, I don't think there is any hardware constraints to using the voice control app on a 3G, except for speed (which may be a constraint in of itself). I would guess there would be somewhere in the 3.0 OS to enable this feature on the 3G.

^ Its not in the 3G firmware at all. I might be able to be transferred from the 3GS firmware once its jailbroken
