upgraded to 3.0, tried to downgrade to 2.2.1, now stuck please help
Here's the skinny.
I upgraded today to the final 3.0 version, thinking all was fine and dandy. I was happy, then decided for some reason that I missed my themes too much and couldn't wait until whenever the final jailbreak was released and tried to downgrade to 2.2.1.
something terribly wrong happened.
Now it seems I have completely lost my iphone activation, and I can still in 3.0. Att wants all my information to activate and I dont have a data plan and am not interested in getting one. I like my iphone as a wifi device--I'm sure many people do.
I tried to get into dfu mode (successful) and use my 2.2.1 ipsw to downgrade. I keep getting error 1600!! I have searched hard on the internet and tried to dfu the phone many times but it always fails. What do I do???
Currently the phone is a brick. I could test to see if I could activate with ATT but its not worth the risk of them slapping on a monthly fee to my bill.
How can I restore my iphone back to 2.2.1? Error 1600 is my problem. I also tried to delete itunes 8.2 and install 8.1. Am I really ******?

There are a bunch of people that have had the same issue today with error 1600.
I have not read a fix or solution for this yet.
I Googled it and found about 20 scenarios, so it's hard to say what will work for you.
Try Google yourself perhaps you can find your solution.
If you do please post it. Good luck
Here is one of the threads on MMi about it, perhaps answer is here.Last edited by blkcadi; 06-17-2009 at 10:26 PM.

Just upgrade back to 3.0 and wait for the jailbreak. That way you don't have to deal with any nasty errors!
I've delt with plenty and they are a pain!

Ok, I updated to 3.0, however, it's still in the plug into itunes mode, and asking for activation. So I can't use the phone. It's a 2g iphone so I assume that when I get ultrasnow I'll be able to use it again...
so is it just a brick till then?
Unless I can really figure out a way to get it back to 2.2.1 because I would like to make call in the next 4 days or so.
I tried Googling like mad, but no solution seems to help...mostly the revert back to old Itunes, etc.

What have you got? A Mac or a PC. Just went back to 2.2.1 myself on a 2G. Took me a while but it is possible. I just ran pwnage tool again. The original custom ipsw didn't work so had to start all over again.

ok, i think i got it to work.
found a virgin computer, installed itunes 7.7 and quicktime 7.5, downloaded clean 2.2 firmware, and then jailbroke with quickpwn 2.2.5.

That's good.
Just for everyone else I'm on a MacBook 10.5.7 with iTunes 8.2. I originally tried restoring with the same 2.2.1 but it wouldn't work. After a fresh re-stall everything worked fine.

really? I didn't get any errors with 2.2 on itunes 7.7, then again. this was a different pc computer which never had any versions of itunes installed on it. So i installed itunes 7.7 and downloaded a clean 2.2 firmware from quickpwn.com. put it in dfu mode and it worked! It actually still asked me to activate the phone after it finished installing the 2.2 firmware, but I didn't. Then I used quickpwn to jailbreak % unlock. ended up with a completely fresh install and working phone.
now im just gonna chill with that until quickpwn 3.0 comes out whenever.
