3.0 Update and 02.28.00 Modem Firmware - Possible?

Hi everyone. This is my first post and I'm sure it will show, but I'll try not to be such a newbie.

I have a question about the new 3.0 update coming out in a couple of days and how it will work with different firmwares. I'm relatively new to iPhones but I've been messing around with software and what-not for the past couple of months so I'm slowly learning how things work.

A little background info:

I currently have an iPhone 3G 16GB running v2.2.1 with 02.28.00 firmware. It has bootloader 5.08. I jailbroke it and downloaded Fuzzyband and downgraded the firmware to 02.28. Then I went ahead and unlocked it via YellowSn0w ad have it working with T-Mobile.

I've heard and read blogs about people upgrading from 2.2 to 2.2.1 and still being able to keep their 02.28 firmware when the 2.2.1 update came out.

So my question is: Will there be a way for me to upgrade to the 3.0 update when it comes out and still be able to keep my 02.28 firmware so that I can keep it unlocked (DEV team seems to be taking a LIFETIME figuring out how to unlock 2.2.1, if they're working on that version at all)?

If so, how?

I'd appreciate any info on this.

The 2.28 baseband will not communicate with the 3.0 software so it is not possible to build a custom 3.0 firmware with a 2.28 baseband. You will have to wait and see like the rest of us what the Dev team comes up with after the official release. I think the baseband for 3.0 is 4.26.
