I put up that screenie to show the end user what they should be expecting for next beta's Jailbreak release..

It is EASIER BUNDLING kernel patch with a jailbreak, than giving you all a patch,
Than telling YOU to decrypt your kernel, patch it, recrypt your kernel & risk killing your iphone.....

i dont think i said anything too grumpy before so idk what the deal was... what i said is the facts. unless HoZy decides to go against everyone and release it early i do not see everyone updating their apps by next week. currently the only people actually working on it are saurik and bigboss. so idk... you can say what you will about my "attitude" but if you want a /realistic/ time frame then expect there to be dysfunctional public jailbreaks until the final release of 3.0.

on the matter of this vm_map patch... it isnt actually a "patch" per say, it is going to just replace the kernel with the new working one. the idea of patching has already been done and the only thing that need be done by the user is replacing the old kernel cache with the new one.

i am not trying to bring down HoZy in any way, i am simply telling you all not to get your hopes up. There are many people working on this at the moment but there is still so much work to be done it is not even realistic to say B6. everyone who is involved up to this point has done a great job and it will likely continue that way, no one should be brought down for trying to help people.

heh, this time if someone has any snide remarks they would like to share please tell me face to face by means of email or pm. for the sake of my friend stealth lets not turn this into a ***** fest.

EDIT: apparently there was two different groups working on the patch... i was not aware that planetbeing had made a patch prior to the one i was involved with. thus the one HoZy is using. his is in fact a patch, so sorry for any confusion.

This is frustrating. If the patch is complete, release it already, If beta 6 would have came out tues or wens I coulda understand the waiting, but this now is just dumb. Why even say its complete if its not gonna be released?

I guess i'm one of the cry babies... look like express your right of speak now is called cry! and i witch they release the patch because that's how you learn and get perfection, making mistakes! for me i'll stay just watching is better that way than having people been unrespectful because they don't like your opinion...

THANK YOU! i was about to say the same thing! i think it's funny that the people that are REALLY seriously complaining are the ones who usually jump and cry "you messed up my phone" when something DOES go wrong! so.. sit it out and wait for it ... secondly.. while Stealth did announce like 100 posts back now, that the patch was infact complete, he also announced he did NOT know when it would be released, THEN told all of us that it would be released with beta 6, so, as with EVERYTHING in life, there are rules that EVEN STEALTH has to abide by, so.. follow the rules, shut the **** up with all the bull crap whining like a six year old girl who's best friend stole her doll.. and do like the more mature forum readers and WAIT FOR THE DAMN PATCH AND BETA 6! it's REALLY not that complicated!

(sorry guys, just had to throw my 2 cents in! DEV TEAM MEMBERS, keep going ahead with what you're doing, regardless of a few idiots here and there that don't appreciate your hard work and countless hours spent, there are a few of us out here that ARE indeed thankful)!

Well I for one owe a great deal of thanks to people like Stealth & HoZy and also the dozens of guys working in the background, each adding their bit to getting round the iPhone locks & jailbreaks. Remember they don't have to do it - they choose to do it. We reap the benefit of their expertise and dedication to what they are able to do.

I'm not a programmer and neither are 99% of the guys on this board and others like it. We just reap the benefits of THEIR experience and knowledge.

So to the users waiting patiently or otherwise - we will have to wait a little longer until the developers say we are safe and able to use it.

Thank God that these guys dont work for Apple otherwise we would be really F**ked

I read this on the Big Boss site today (notice the part about waiting for 3.0 to be released before getting the patch):

have been working hard on iPhone 3.0 OS testing all my apps. At this point, most stuff is working although SBSettings has a couple small quirks. I plan to have everything ready and released before 3.0 is actually out. Apps tested are:

1) SBSettings - In addition to patching current kernel in current jailbreak to get this to work (sorry, I will not be able to give this patch out, wait for 3.0 to be released), I have fixed many of the changed hooks in Springboard 3 and installed an entirely new toggle mechanism. The old toggles mostly stopped working and had to be rewritten. This will also provide a more stable SSH toggle and EDGE toggle. It also will open the door for toggles like safari download and syslog which were previously not possible. Safari download toggle will become a trivial task and I plan to have a toggle whipped up for this new SBSettings.

2) BossPrefs - I planned on killing this app, but it seems to be used quite a lot in spite of SBSettings being out and better. The original BossPrefs was built for 1.1.x and built with the compatibility SDK. This is no longer possible to use on 3.0. I had to rewrite it from scratch. In doing so, I have it actually using the SBSettings toggles pack. (Yes, even brightness, fastnotes and the likes work, LOL).

3) Categories - Tested and working. Currently requires core-utils to be installed, which is no longer default install in Cydia.

4) Poof - Tested and working. Currently requires core-utils to be installed.

5) Flashlight - Tested, worked with no modification.

6) Docs - Tested, worked with no modification.

I have other apps, but they just do standard things and I believe they will all work without modification.

For the people who participated in this project, thank you for your time and wits, oh yeah did i almost forgot to mention WHO'S GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. For the ones bickering it's getting a little old now and it needs to stop before it becomes it food fight!
