1.) First download the required archive Send big files the easy way. Files too large for email attachments? No problem!

2.) Extract the archive to the root of your hard drive, should be C:/DFU/

3.) Connect your iPhone and ignore iTunes

    4.) Goto Start - run

    5.) Next type in “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”

6.) Wait for iPhone to show a “white” screen. So you are in DFU mode...

I tried the abobe method but i keep getting an error in itunes when restoring. From what ive been told, the phone is going into recovery mode and not DFU mode. Any other help would be appreciated.

if you are on osx 10.5.6 then you have to follow this guide

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. with some Macs. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but here is another method that can be used to easily restore functionality.
You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - Apple Developer Connection - Mac Dev Center
Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices,
Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices, at the most leave a Keyboard and Mouse connected.
nstall IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
    Reboot your system!
Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55”
Install IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg from within the disk image
    Reboot your system!
    Reattach your USB peripherals.

Again, my power button is non existant so I cannot manually put the phone into DFU mode. When i use the above method of “c:/dfu/dfu iBSS.m68ap.RELEASE.dfu”, it puts my phone in iBoot mode and not DFU and therfore gives me an error 21 when restoring. I just need to be able to put the phone in DFU mode for a custom restore.

I have installed a custom firmware using the ALT+restore button and picking my custom firmware. When I did a DFU custom installation, I would get an error. Try plugging your phone in (if its in recovery), hit AlT+restore and pick your custom firmware. IT worked for me.

well if you set your firmware to i think 3.1.3 then jailbrake with sprit see video in my youtube YouTube - SoldierV5's Channel you wont need to push buttons for the jailbrake then to unlock goto cydia add soure ultrarepo.666.com install it then youll be unlocked and jailbroken but youll have to wait till they make a better jailbrake thatll put the device in dfu instead of doing it your self hope this helped
