Default iPhone 2G stuck - "Restoring iphone firmware"

I am attempting to downgrade my firmware from 2.2 to 1.1.4 (following the guide i wrote, lol) and using iTunes 7.5 I can't get the phone to complete the first DFU restore to 1.1.4. I've tried 3 times now and the phone goes into DFU just fine.. select the 1.1.4 firmware and the process starts but never finishes. Itunes displays "Restoring iPhone firmware" and the iPhone displays the Apple logo with the spinning wheel at the bottom. I've done this process tons of times but never had this issue... any ideas would be super. Thanks y'all!

The restore process actually finished even though it didn't auto-reboot. All I did was disconnect it... manually put it into recovery mode and restored again... and it worked great.
