Speak the truth!!

I live in Australia and i am with the optus network. I have a 16g iphone 3g and i recently tried to unlock the phone but it froze on me and the only way i could get it to unfreeze was to plug in to itunes and update to the new 2.2 software. I have been told that in this situation i cant unlock my iphone. Is this true? There are quite a few sites here on modmyi.com promising that they can unlock it for a fee. True or false? Please help me, i really would like my iphone unlocked.

Unlocker

I'm pretty sure that the 3G unlocker will still work. I read somewhere that if you jailbroke 2.1 and didn't prepapre it for 2.2 with some other software then it wouldn't be doable (jailbraking) but I haven't heard anything about prerequisites for unlocking a 3g iPhone, considering how the unlocker was released after the 2.2 update.

Hey hiflyer, i followed the link but it says i have to have a jailbroken iphone. The prob is i dont. It never worked the first time. It crashed while i was trying to crack it. But when i plugged it in to itunes it forced me to update to the 2.2 software.

When i tried to crack it last time it worked but the sim card would not put out a signal for service. So i done another factory restore and then when i atempted it again it froze on the apple screen then i had to plug it in to itunes in which case it forced me to update my iphone to the 2.2 software, so i dont know whether i iphone was ever successfully unlcoked.

Hi sneekeee,

After you restored to 2.2, did you use quickpwn 2.2 for windows to jailbreak?

If that worked, then yellow sn0w should do the unlock for you. Quickpwn will not unlock the 3g but will jailbreak.

The reason your iPhone froze is because the 3G unlock requires the most recent baseband, which in turn requires 2.2 so being "forced" to upgrade was a good thing. If you jailbreak and unlock now, you should have no problems.

Hey guys, after i was 'forced' to put 2.2 upgrade on, i havnt even tried to unlock again because i have been told that if i try it will freeze the phone, but i did use quick pawn originally.

How do i do it? Delete my phone content to factory, then use quick pawn and then use yellow snow? Is there a step by step guide i can follow? That would help so much.

This is the link to jailbreak your 3g:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 3G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows)

This the link to unlock your 3g:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock the iPhone 3G

You do not need to delete anything from your phone. Just have a stock 2.2 upgrade and then follow the jailbreak tutorial using quickpwn and after you do that follow the tutorial on unlocking.
