3G iphone 2.1fw with 2.2 baseband with Turbo Sim

Guys/Girls,

I have a problem, which requires the help of the greatest minds on modmyi.com.

I have a 3G iphone 8gb, which was being used on 2.1 firmware with the correct bseband, along with a turbo sim. This was wokring fine, until I thought I know I will get a turbo sim off ebay which allows me to upgrade to 2.2 fw.

Yes, I can hear what you are saying and your right.

I put the turbo sim in and got no service, the upgraded to 2.2 and got no service. I then restored my phone which sent it back to emergency mode, with no icons, menus etc....

I then jailbroke it, putting 2.1 firmware back on. Great I got my icons back. But I still get no service, which I assume is due to the bseband still being 02.28.

Can I do anything i.e

Upgrade it to 2.2, matching the firmware with the baseband and getting a turbo sim that actually works.

Now that the phone is jailbroken would this play a major factor in this??

Can the phone ever be restored to its original state?

Thanks for all your help.

Yes, simply restore and see if it works. If not, wait for a few hours; the 3G unlock will be on Cydia sometime today and it has been hinted by the dev-team that the 2.28 baseband will indeed be unlockable with the software unlock as well.

Thanks, I put the devs team 2.2 release on my phone, but still can not get it to work.

From what I can gather, the following simple steps are needed:

1. iphone 3g 2.1, on 2.1 fw baseband (not 02.28) which was not jailbroken and was using a turbo sim (working fine)

2. the iphone is now 2.2fw, with 02.28 baseband, jailbroken and using a turbo sim. (no service)

3. Connect phone to PC and go to itunes, update phone, which puts the phone back to recovery mode i.e all music, videos, including meus etc have gone.
4. Follow procedure to take it out of recovery mode, disconnect phone from PC hold home and reconnect. Itunes opnes, hold shift key and select restore.
5. Should now have a non jailbroken phone, but still on 02.28 baseband. Follow the proicess to jailbreak, using Quickpwn and downloaded 2.2fw.
6. Once phone is back to icons etc....go into cydia and follow the yellowsn)w process.
7. The phone should now work with a turbo sim (using 3 network sim card) with fw 2.2 and 02.28 baseband.

Question: does the Dev Teams update allow any turbo sim to be used in the iphone (wether the turbo sim is designed to be used on 2.1 or 2.2)

Any thoughts on the above, as my phone is still no service and I intend on going through the baove process.

Thanks,

Ste
