2.2 Questions!

Rawr!

Ok. I've had my iPhone for several months now, and I've just used it for the norm, email, txt's, phone calls. Nothing cool. Just... plain... boring... normal.

I saw someone through Twinkle post a theme!"Hey I didn't know I could do that!?!" And... now I want one!!! SOOOO BAD. Ok. I'd love something pink!!

So I researched and read and watched a bazillion guides it feels like and I'm still stumped.

So far I think I've determined (correct me if I am wrong) the first step to modding my iPhone would be to jailbreak it!

Correct? Not Correct?

However reading through several of these posts, I noticed that I may not be able to do anything after all.

I upgraded with iTunes to 2.2 the day it was released (due to dropped call issues I was having) and I use a windows pc.

SO.... ------------------------- Bottom line.

2.2 + Windows = Not happening anytime soon?

Is that what I read?

If I'm wrong please someone tell me. Maybe direct me to some "updated" tutorials.

I keep seeing a lot for 1.1 and I don't want to mess anything up!

Ha, well your not screwed.

There's a program called "Quickpwn" (you may have already read about it) that will jailbreak your 2.2. I suggest doing it this way, seems to work best:

1. Backup in Itunes. So all your stuff is synced.

2. Restore the phone in Itunes so its nice and "clean"....but DONT SYNC anything to it yet. When it gets to the screen that makes you choose "Restore as new" or "Restore from backup" just quit Itunes.

3. Use Quickpwn to jailbreak, just follow the instructions in the app. Choose to install "Cydia", Dont install "Installer" and dont "unlock".

4. Once its done its thing....now you can sync your stuff back in Itunes.

PS- Then you can install an app called "Winterboard" which is in "Cydia" and that will let you have "pretty pink" themes, blah..hahahaha. Cydia allows you download apps, themes, etc.

Now I am going to head over to the Skinning Forum, and I think I am going to try my hand at skinning!!

Any good tutorials I should look at for that?

Recommendations would be great!! Otherwise I feel like I am looking for a needle in a haystack!

Also: Know a good tutorial for downloading themes not using Cydia? Like I saw some really cool themes in the forum, but they werent all in Cydia... I looked for like 3 hours in there!!

Thank you for posting these instructions. This is exactly what I was looking for as well. With all of the conflicting information out there I could not tell if I would mess up my phone or not by Jailbreaking it.

I do have two questions though before I pull the trigger. Does this mess with the baseband like I have read and are these instructions for the 3G?
