New guy here, trying to learn some basics and have questions

I just bought a first gen iphone from my cousin that is already jailbroken/unlocked. I am using tmobile and everything seems to be working fine, even edge has some decent speeds.

When i got it, it had firmware 1.1.4 on it i believe. I did the custom 2.2 upgrade since i thought i wanted the app store and all that good jazz.

All that is working correctly, my only issue is with cydia. It will always crash back to the spring board after i select which interface i want.

Now, my next problem is i have no idea how this phone was broken/unlocked, anyway i can find that out? My cousin has no clue also.

Will cydia work with custom 2.2 firmware? I would like to try and get a nes emulator to work on it, i am doing a lot of reading and learning, so bare with me

It should.....
I suggest restoring to 2.2. Then jailbreak with QuickPWN. There's a guide at the top links of MMi. You won't have to re-unlock since it's already unlocked.
