Hello! Forgive me if a similar question was already posted, but I could not find the answer.
I'm new to this jailbreaking thing. My iPhone 3G has already been updated to 2.2 through iTunes.
I'm under the impression that you can jailbreak your phone w/o unlocking. So if I get my phone service through AT&T, do I not need to worry about the baseband update? I've heard stories about "No Service" after jailbreak, but I think this only applies to non-AT&T customers who need to unlock their phone?
Having just gotten rid of my jailbroken 2g iphone which I'd been using for the past year, I bought my 3g yesterday (2.28.00 baseband).
I'm a little gunshy, to jailbreak it since last week I tried to jailbreak a buddy's 3g using quickpwn on windows. The jailbreak took, but the baseband got upgraded to 2.28.00 and rendered his phone service and internet null. There is no option to prevent the upgrade of the baseband using quickpwn for pc for some UNGODLY reason, which I wasn't aware of at the time (lazy, didn't do the research).
He's a lawyer and as such was able to get apple to restore service to his phone, but my question is this: Do I need to go borrow a mac and jailbreak using pwnage tool so I can deselect "unlock," or will quickpwn for windows be sufficient in jailbreaking my 3g 2.2 fw w.28.00 baseband phone that I'm not interested in unlocking? I only want the jailbreak.
Thanks for any assistance that can be rendered. I'll even take a caustic comment or 3 just as long as I get a clear answer in the replies somewhere.
