Im am done JB'ing
for all the issues and time it takes to JB my iPhone, i am official saying i am done. It seems so useless.
The app store has tons of stuff and the stuff that Cydia has is buggy at best.
I really wanted to jb so i could get that MMS app. But the hoops you have to jump through to get that to work are amazing.
also, the restore process is nuts. I have to remove about half of my apps so i can even jb. i do not feel it is worth it anymore.
who else is giving up?

Well, whoever has an iPhone and doesnt Jailbreak it, IMO, doesnt deserve the iPhone.
Your not using it to its max. potential without Jailbreaking.
Its your choice at the end, but its a stupid one.
Also, Cydia is no more buggy than the App Store app or iTunes app, etc.
You dont have to remove anything to Jailbreak.
If you were smart enough, or gave it time enough, you could have thought of a way, to finish restoring my phone from say 2.1 to 2.2, and bring back all the Jailbroken apps as well as the music and appstore apps.

I agree without a Jailbroken iPhone I wouldn't have all the free apps and games and be on my old Orange PAYG plan.

Putting aside the immaturity of that statement, you're talking about 95% of iPhone users. Without their dollars, Apple would stop making the iPhone and then you'd be nowhere wouldn't you. JB isn't the end-all and be-all like it used to be. Yes, it's great for file mods, themes etc, but necessary to gain the full advantage of the iPhone? Not in the slightest.

Eurisko, FYI, even though im jailbroken, I have bought ever app I own on AppStore.
Why?.. Because if their good, developers deserve the money.
People have the impression that the only reason to jailbreak is for getting cracked apps, and thats given Jailbreaking the wrong image.
I dont support application cracking, the MobileInstallation patch, at all!
But adding usability, customization, and getting apps that Apple doesnt want you to have, eg. the SMS app's, or MMS app, or using Fring over 3G/EDGE, is definitely a good reason to jailbreak.
There are so many perks, that I could waste 15 mins of my life typing a list long enough.
You dont have to burn me coz I have an opinion. So frak off.

I agree, if you do not jail break you are missing out so much. But, unless you are unix savvy, jailbreaking might seem too much hassle, but I recommend you to not give up, keep doing it, soon it will all make sense, and you will grow your own system to do it efficiently.
As for myself, if I cant jailbreak the iphone, I would stop using it and move to something else.

No giving up yet. I guess I don't do MMS so don't need to go thru hoops. It's fun using some apps and trying before buying.

Play nice please.
Everyone has their reasons for owning an iPhone. Just because someone may want to use the iphone conventionally does not make them "less worthy". We are all worthy. I have more respect for a person chosing to use their iPhone bone stock than one who tries to jailbreak without researching and learning all the implications then complains about a substandard product, network etc...
Modding is not without risk. If one cannot assume the risk, they should leave the iPhone stock.
This said, anyone can learn how to become somewhat "expert" if they devote the time and the thought to the process. Not everyone has this time nor the desire.
If I've helped you, you can help me by clicking on that Thanks button.

well aside from the burning, the iPhone is a great device, and if you perfer to have it in jailbroken, that great as long as you are still enjoying the product you purchased! hopefully later in the future, the process that was giving you a hard time will be made easier and you might reconsider your decision. good luck man and enjoy your visit in MMi
