    Default Problems with DFU / iTunes 8.0.2 error 21 / FW 2.2

    Hello everybody

    What I've learned so far:
Never mess with a working iPhone...

I had FW 2.1. ( installed with Pwnage Tool) running perfectly on my iPhone when I decided that I wanted to go for 2.2.

It looked easy at first, I created an ipsw image with the newest Pwnage version & sent my phone to dfu. But...

    - iTunes (8.0.2) has problems installing the new firmware, I get an error 21.

I tried different firmwares, I get the same errors, no matter if original Apple ipsw or created with Pwnage. So I googled around and found a howto for my problem with QuickPwn, but...

    - I can't get my iPhone (1st gen) out of the dfu mode anymore.

I tried different tools (iNdependence, ziphone, iPHUC etc.) to get the phone out of the DFU mode, but none of them even recognized the phone. There's always the plug & iTunes logo on the screen, the sleep button won't bring the red slider up anymore, all I can do is push both buttons in order to reset it, it will show the apple logo and get back to the same state as before.

So, currently none of the tools I know (other than iTunes 8.0.2) can recognize my iPhone.
Since I've read about an issue that brings the mentioned error 21 only on 8.0.2 but not 8.0.1, I tried to reset my phone on a friends machine. He has iTunes 7.something installed. It didn't recognize my iPhone. I can't find a copy of 8.0.1 anymore (and wouldn't know if that would resolve my problem.

    Any ideas / suggestions?

    Thanks,

    multivir

    I found the solution myself...

    - Remove all fimrwares in /user/library/iTunes/iPhone...
    - Remove iTunes according to manual on apple.com
    - Re-installing iTunes 8.0.1
    - Re-downloading original FW 2.2 (this got the iPhone back to operational mode)
    - Quickpwn of 2.2

Cool that you found your solution, but I think the issue was you not entering dfu mode properly. Screen should have remained blank, no iTunes logo.

I have had the same problem and took me about 24 hours of just getting really frustrated trying everything out.

Then I followed your idea installing a previous iTunes and it worked. Thanks you!!!

    Simply
    21 is recovery error.
    16xx are dfu errors...
