Modded 2.2 or unmodded and lose the Dev option?

Big dilemma chaps- need your opinions. I have sort of asked this in a more general post but I have a more specific issue now!

I'm on T-Mob UK using any network sim running 2.1. I'm torn about the 2.2 update. Any Network now have a 2.2 sim availble but I have been in the camp that waits for the Dev Gods to finalise their thing and go the software route in the long term, especially since the DT still disapprove of the sim route.

So if I were to go to 2.2 with custom IPSW baseband would I be right in assuming that any improvements to call stability (one of the fixes in 2.2) would be lost? I ask this because dropped calls is one of my biggest frustrations. I know that in London there are issues with other phones running 3G dropping calls while switching between repeater stations (this was a particular issue with T-Mob and my Viewty which was 3G/HSDPA enabled and was only cured by manually switching to 2G). My signal quality is just as good as it was with the viewty but I'm sure that some of my dropped call problem is the iphone bug.

So with that in mind I would assume that to get the full benefit of any call related bug fixes the unmodded 2.2 would have to be installed and that begs my other question - are the sim based unlocks actually as bad as Dev team suggest? Afterall I would think the number of iphone owners using them quite successfully must be huge and they do work! I would think that the sim developers are able to stay one step ahead with future updates in much the same way as Dev team is doing and why is a software unlock better when future FW updates would disable it initially.

Your expertise and comments are much appreciated and anyone running on T-Mob UK - how did it go?

Dont trust Any-network v3 is a scam does not work

I sympathise for all the victims of Any-network as I am one. They are a bunch of scammers avoid them like plague unless you wish to loose your money. After 14 days the v3 arrived but it did not work I tried all the various manoeuvres but nothing worked. Tried to contact support on several occasions but did not get through only got voice mails. Sent several email did not get a single reply. They are cheats and scammers. I tried to make a claim with paypal and had the standard reply that they are unable to make claims for “quality of the goods”. They only act if the goods are not delivered. Dont pay using paypal you are better protected if you have paid using credit card. Call the credit card company and reverse the charges. If you are in UK under the distance selling act you are entitled to a full refund if the product is defective. We all need to file complaint with the trading standards office and teach these scammers a lesson. They have closed the blog and now taken out the contact telephone number from their website. Please spread the word around and post any other websites or forum details where we can put our comments. I have ordered a rebel sim and I will keep you posted on this.

well that's not been my experience!! I have had their sim for some 2 months now. I have had the odd problem now and again but was sent an immediate replacement without question when my first one malfunctioned (although that is working again so I have 2 sims). I don't think any of these sims work perfectly constantly anyway).

I recently got an email from them apologising for difficulties in contacting them by phone/email which they excuse because of the high volume of work involved in dealing with the 2.2 chips. This I can well believe as a lot of people must be wanting them, and from my past conversations with the owner they are a tiny company with a few employees, so I'm just hoping they calm down enough to give telephone suppprt again in the new year. The blogger in your link also say's the sim didn't fit!! I can assure readers they certainly do and I suspect the sims from a lot of these unlock companies originate in the same factories in asia where this kind of unlocking is nothing new - so companies like any network just buy them in and do their own coding to flash the chips), Iv'e had mine in and out with no problems.

Now I have asked a similar question in another post but just to repeat in a simpler way:

Given that the sim method does work and works with the full 2.2 fw (bearing in mind new iphone owners will have 2.2fw so no choice) does the advantage of using the full fw (for baseband bug fixes as well as the rest) together with the occasional hassle of the chip outweigh the software route which will only have the 2.1 baseband unless dev team work on further unlocks (because what improvements might 2.3 and 2.4 fw's bring?)
