Is it possible to Install 2.2 on non-Jailbroken iPhone 3G without Baseband

This may not make sense to most of you, but is there a way to update to firmware 2.2 without the baseband and without jailbreaking? ie, the official firmware, just without the baseband installed so I can sim-unlock the device when it gets figured out.

yeah, i guess. use pwnage tool to build a custom firmware, don't install cydia or installer. and don't do update baseband. u can always just do a custom firmware without baseband update, just turn off cydia and installer icon, but i don't know why u wouldn't want it jailbroke, iphone really shine with it jailbroken. but whatever u like
