hi...

i upgraded yesterday mi first gen iphone 8gb succesfully and wanted to share mi experience just in case someone needs help.

iphone background: first gen 8gb week 30 1.0.2 otb.
performed the following 1.1.1 upgrade then 1.1.2 then 1.1.3 then 1.1.4 then 2.0.1 then 2.1 all with unlock and jailbreak.(this is since i got it "14 months ago" till now. not all at same time.) until yesterday i got it up to 2.2.

i did the process using windows vista.

ok guys here is what i did:

first i downloaded the iphone 2.2 firmware and quickpwn 2.2 windows from here:

then...

as i was using stacks and categories, i removed all folders and subfolders and everything from categories and stacks out to the main springboard.

then i did a backup of my phone using this guide:

then...

from 2.1 firmware jailbroken and unlocked using quickpwn i went ahead and upgraded itunes to 8.0.2.

then...

I shift+update iphone with the previously downloaded 2.2 firmware.

then...

imediatly after the update i did shift+restore to the same previously downloaded 2.2 firmware so i can get a fresh and clean firmware. (i did it like this update and then restore just in case it wouldn`t restore directly). (so i don`t know if you can restore directly)

make sure you have the 3.9bin and 4.6bin if you want to unlock


then...

went ahead and opened quickpwn previously downloaded, and followed instructions to jailbreak and unlock.


20 minutes later (upgrading process only) it was on 2.2 firmware clean and everything working perfectly.

last...

i followed instructions on the same page from where i did the backup process to restore all my apps, sms, addressbook, etc.....


hope i helped you in need, and again this is what i did and worked for me.

thanks for this i will try again tomorro....stuck on v2.1.2 at mo after 3 attempts at 'shift/restore' using modmyi downloaded v2.2 firmware! and getting my phone locked by apple!!

do u have a 2g? if u do just update normal then quickpwn 2.2.
if 3g, u must use pwnage tool or someone build one for u, if u want future unlock.

yea i have 2g 8gb running on orange uk

tried quickpwn for my first attempt...but only had phone 1 month and it came jailbroke and unlocked...but no idea by which method!!

so upgraded to 2.2 in itunes then tried quickpwn 2.2 and just failed every time so...

i then downloaded winpwn 2.5 and used in expert mode and hey presto had v2.1.2!

saw a thread today about shift/restore v2.2 firmware...tried and back to locked out again lol

hence 3rd attempt and still on v2.1.2 wores still my phone came with 2.1 installed...i will be on v-1 by end of week at this rate lol

after 3 attempts at upgrading to v2.2 your method works a treat and i now have an up to date phone....thank you
