ok, to clarify things for everyone...

the baseband update writes a new code to the baseband chip. YOU CANNOT REVERT BACK ONCE IT'S BEEN UPDATED.

the reason why is because software unlocks depend on being able to write to the baseband. at this point, the Dev team is ALMOST there, but doesnt have "free reign" over the baseband yet. since no one outside of apple currently has the ability to alter the baseband, there is no way to revert back to the previous baseband.

to add insult to injury, the iPhone Dev Team is on the verge of cracking the prior baseband. as such, the versions of Quickpwn and Pwnage that eventually allow for 3g unlocking will of course utilize a hacked version of the previous baseband but will still not be able to rewrite over the new baseband.

the new baseband will have to be cracked just like the current one is currently being.

so to those who updated, even if the dev team can finish cracking the previous baseband tomorrow, all you can do is hope that it doesnt take nearly as long to crack the new baseband or find a way to overwrite without nuking the chip... but rest assured they will work on it since all new phones being sold now have the new baseband loaded onto it.

i just hope someone can solve this phone wiht the iphone 2.2 firmware and the updated firmware some time soon. i miss using the iphone!

I knew that the firmware can be downgraded to FW 2.1 but unfortunately the baseband is also not downgraded when getting ZiPhone done.

i upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 and then i just bought the 2.2 unlock turbosim from iPhone 3G Sim Unlock - Home Page

Just to say that if you didn't upgrade your baseband with 2.2, you can unlock your iPhone 3g.

Good news for some people, unfortunately the people who updated thier basband, like me, have to wait until the iPhoneDevTeam release the baseband that came 2.2.
