2.2 firmware upgrade help plz! Someone
HELLO PEEPS.. I need a little help plz. I live in the Uk well actually Northern Ireland, and i'm with the carrier O2 with a 3G Iphone on 2.1..
Quite simply I tried to upgrade my phones firmware this very minute following the instructions to the letter and made my own customized 2.2 firmware and didn't use apples as I was already jailbroken at 2.1firmware, anyway tonight I upgraded my phone to firmware 2.2 using the method suggested by this site and when my phone rebooted there was no signal bars I wasn't able to get my carrier name or signal strength so effectively I had an ipod touch for a while, until I did a firmware downgrade back to 2.1 then jailbroke it as it was before I started thankfully I made a backup of everything so this exercise ddint hurt too much, I would appreciate any correspondence from someone who experienced what I experienced or would have a reason why the upgrade dosent work for O2 customers or is this software firmware upgrade only available for people who live in the U.S.A.. I notice that I have to use the original firmware and it works fine but if you use a modified firmware then it refuses to work? Any pointers or workaround would be appreciated.. Thanks to all who write me back it will be appreciated as to why I can't get this thing to work at 2.2..

Your going to have to explain to us what the "method" you used was. So we can tell you what went wrong.

hmm, really don't know what u did, but one thing is most likely u using a adapter, reboot the phone, include turning it completely off. wait for few min reboot, keep doing it for couple times or till it come back on. for some reason, i seen few 3g i jailbreak go thu the same thing, where it'll show no signal or 1bar of signal and no carrier. i'm not saying this is the case, but i try that method and it work, so give it a try.

Hey thank you for the reply I will try switching it off and on again never thought of that one as I have all the rirmware updates at my fingertips I'll be able to bring it back to the 2.1 firmware if all else fails..
So to recap I used pwang tool for os-x selected my phone which was 3-g then proceeded to make a custom 2.2 firmware to use in itunes, I did all that then connected my phone to itunes and held the home button and power button so itunes would recognise it was in a state to upgrade to the new firmware which I did but unfortunately for me i could not get my carrier or operator basically the phone part of my phone died, lol.. Anyway I will do as you suggested and turn it of and on again if that dosent work I dunno what to do.. Oh whoever asks me again what process ddi I go through to upgrade my firmware I used the process suggested on this web site where it actually walks you through the upgrade process.. Anyway thanks for all your help any other suggestions would be mose helpful I'll post back here if your suggestion worked about turning my phone on and off after upgrading the firmware.. Thank you..

yes, u must use pwnage tool if u want to preserve your baseband. for unlock in the furture. if the turning on and off things work and also leave it on for awhile, i notice that the sim adapter the same way. i have to let it sit for a long time. and then it comes back. if method work, please post it back so other will know

HELLO MY FRIEND. Sorry to report back turning the phone on and off didn't work. Someone suggested when creating a compatible 2.2 firmware to uncheck the box in the general tabb in pawngtool to activate, instead uncheck that particular box then maybe it will work. If not i'm going to ahve to just make do with 2.1 as you rightly state i'll lock myself out if I want to software unlock my 3g iphon ein the future if I go ahead and use apples or pawntool for windows which I do not want to do..

create a custom firmware and don't use the activate option.
so after the update, you use itunes to activate and everything should work like it used to. but make sure to not update your baseband as well. if u wanna preserve the ability to unlock in the future.1.1.1>1.1.2>1.1.4>2.0>2.1>2.2>3.1>3.1.2 blackra1n'd
waitin on my white iphone 4
