Ok guys and gals I have been reading numerous threads here and other forums and just have a few simple questions. I currently have an iphone 3g running firmware 2.1 and it is jailbroken. I am thinking about upgrading to firmware 2.2 and would like to jailbreak that also so I can keep my pysl, cycorder and all the other cool 3rd party apps. My question is can someone give me a link to STEP BY STEP instructions on how to go about this. I think I know just from reading some jailbreak threads but I also want to be very sure I am going about it the correct way. Any help will be GREATLY APPRECIATED and if there are any thoughts on upgrading to 2.2 and jailbreaking please feel free to share. I have read some threads that make me want to stay where I am and just do with out the 2.2 firmware for a while until some kinks get worked out. Thanks a lot and this website rocks so keep up the good work.
I'm not too sure about using the iClarified method. I mean it works & you do get it unlocked & jailbroken but I have never been able to retain my Cydia/Installer nor App Store apps. I'd like to know how to do this as well, for when I plan on updating to 2.2 (again) later today.
followed the iclarified steps and I am running 2.2 firmware and jailbroken successfully. I decided to do a restore because for some reason I felt like it was a better idea and I can save the 500mb of wasted space. It sucked having to sync all my music back and reinstall all my cydia apps but I feel like it is a clean slate and not just bits and pieces of 2.1 mixed in with 2.2. After I restored and and started fresh with 2.2 firmware I didn't jailbreak right away I thought I might stay that way and not jailbreak but that didn't last long . After a few hours of the annoying SMS notification popping up every time I got a text I decided to go back to the jailbreak world. Also the cycorder and winterboard steered me back to jailbreak. I can see an improvement with web browsing and the battery life seems to last longer.
