@E-Dragon
Good stuff getting a tutorial going, and doing a much better job of explaining it than me I must say.
Thought I would add thou, did it in a slightly more interesting way through PUTTY to execute the restore command as I had some issues with WinSCP running apps that involve data xfer. Anyway this allowed me to watch it and see progress as it downloaded etc, quite cool. It did end very abruptly, but comparing the original backup file that you mentioned above with a new one it appears to have reinstalled everything correctly yeeha!

Running AptBackup from shell didn't work. I am using Putty as SSH client... Here's what one should do:
1) SSH into your phone
2) type "cd /private/var/stash/Applications/AptBackup.app"
3) type "./restore"
and wait
2 & 3 can be combined into one step for who know their way around *nix.

Thanks for the excellent info which helped me a lot in finding the files used by AptBackup for its backups. Here's what I did (and I did this twice too). I was migrating from one iPod Touch to another FYI
1. Copied the 3 files mentioned to my computer:
aptbackup_dpkg-packages.txt
aptbackup_openssh.tgz
aptbackup_cydiasources.tgz
from /root/private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences
2. Launched AptBackup on the second iPod Touch and clicked Backup
3. Copied the files above to the 2nd iPod and clicked Restore
Everything seems fine and all my Cydia apps are duplicated nicely. Hope this helps other folks who need to migrate Cydia apps from one unit to another (should work okay on the iPhone too)

Just happened to me. But there is a fix, or at least a work-around

If I restore (aka sync) App Store apps from iTunes, and then restore apps from Cydia (AptBackup) it never finishes and reboots every 5-6 minutes.
For me, it was important to not-sync, to NOT install any App Store applications prior to running AptBackup --- just the basic iTunes restore from a newly discovered phone. (Note: before the QuickPwn and after the last iTunes backup I checked 'manually manage music and videos' to limited the iTunes sync time.
