Updating to FW 2.2 once Pwnage it out? And on the new MacBook?

My second post here, and just want to prepare some people who have bought the new Aluminum MacBook and jailbreak their iPhones and iPod touches. Sorta long post, and hopefully it help and makes sense.

As of right now, firmware 2.2 has just been released an hour ago, and im sure the amazing iPhone Dev Team has or is working on the next PwnageTool and QuickPwn, and will be released soon.

Well if your like me, I bought my new MacBook a week ago, and I also have an iPhone 3G which is on jailbroken 2.1 firmware, and also want to update to 2.2 jailbroken.

Well bad news, if anyone hasnt noticed or heard, Apple has made a new custom build of iTunes 8 just for the new Aluminum MacBooks which doesnt detect a device in DFU mode. DFU mode is essential for jailbreaking and at the moment jailbreaking devices on the new MacBooks isnt possible yet.

The iPhone Dev Team said "Apple can’t fix the bug we’ve exploited in PwnageTool unless they fix their hardware. That hardware fact is still true”. They also said they can provide patches to use with iTunes 8 to avoid these new issues made by Apple.

---

My question is, cant you just download iTunes 8 on a regular Mac then bring it over to the new MacBook and then jailbreak like normal?

well good news for us is that you can update a already PWNED phone.

b/c we can installed pwned firmware just not pwn the phone itself, so if your iphone is pwned already, all u really need is the pwned firmware.

The process to update a pwned iphone should be to restore (or maybe even a update will work) straight to a pwned firmware file. that's how i updated my 2.0.x iphone to 2.1 on my new macbook.

BUT hopefully the dev team comes up with a work around for us, b/c it is annoying.

As far as your problem is concerned, you will most likely have to use your PC and quickpwn until a patch can be installed from the dev team. You may also try downloading and installing a previous version of iTunes... maybe 8.0 and see if that works.
