Default Help with Upgrading from 1.1.3 to latest firmware

I have an 8gb iphone unlocked for t-mobile and I'm running on 1.1.3 firmware. I'm having a lot of problems with the phone so I wanted to upgrade my firmware to the latest 2.1 or at least 1.1.4. Can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to do this?

My phone has been unlocked with a soldering iron, does that make a difference in the updating process?

Ah, there's really no difference. 1st Gen's can be re-unlocked, 3G's can't (yet). But you use Pwnage for both.

Whether or not the hardware method was originally used for you, your phone is going to be relocked when you upgrade. But good news is Pwnage will unlock it again.
