are sms saved after upgrade?

i am on 1.1.2 jailbroken. i jailbroken it by using the call emergency method/ hold/hang up (not sure what its called).

if i use this method to upgrade:

will my text messages be saved?

i hope this method isnt outdated either, i been out of the modding scene for a year already.

No, they will be deleted, I suggest you back them up over SSH or using one of the many tools available for backing up sms messages etc
