Sudden No service message on iPhone 2G
Hi,
Have an iPhone running 1.1.1 that has been working fine unlocked/jailbroken for the last year.
Last week however it came up with 'No service' after I turned off an alarm i set.
Also, the sound stopped working and wifi stopped working.
I tried resetting network settings and that didnt work
Then I updated ituned to 8.0.1 and installed 2.1 firmware then QuickPWN'd the phone to jailbreak again (didnt unlock again, as I believe that it doesnt need to be down and I didnt have the 2 bootloaders it was asking for)
Now the sound and wifi work but I still have the 'No Service' or zero bars reception
iTunes at some stage said the SIM was invalid but was able to successfully update to 2.1/PWN/restore the device
Any ideas of what could be wrong or how to fix this? or how to test if the phone has a hardware problem?
cheers

^^Yes you DO need to "unlock" again.
It isnt necessary depending on what firmware you have and are going too....but going from 1.1.1 - 2.1, it updates baseband, etc, and you will have to unlock again.
So, thats why you have no service, you are running a locked phone.

i had my iphone 2g pwned-unlocked/activated/jailbroken via pwnagetool 2.1 with 2.1 firmware. it worked for about a week, and now i get no service. when i pop sim card in and out, turn on/off airplane mode, etc, it works for a few seconds and i can make calls. then it goes back to no service. how can i fix this? thank you

I have the exact same problem, and pretty much same symptoms. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Update: Just thought i'd put this out there; i updated to 2.2 to see if it would make a difference (first gen iphones retain unlock though loose everything else). Well, basically, the service is back, though intermittently is lost.Last edited by oneoftheelect; 11-21-2008 at 07:34 PM.
