restoring (AppStore) apps after upgrade

Hi. I just upgraded from a jailbroken 2.0.2 to 2.1. I wanted to back up and restore everything on my phone, but I couldn't use iTunes for that (since it was jailbroken already) so I just used rsync to make a local copy of the phone on my computer.

After upgrading and jailbreaking 2.1, I copied back the files I wanted. Most things work fine (contacts, SMS, etc) but the one thing that doesn't work is AppStore applications. Even though I've copied the files in /var/mobile/Applications/ back across, and I can see them in the "Hide Icons" section of BossPrefs, they don't show up on SpringBoard.

I don't want to pay money to buy applications again. Is there some othe preference file or something I have to edit or copy over to get them to come up in SpringBoard?

thank!

You don't have to pay for them again. when you "buy" them in itunes, if you have already purchased the app, it will download it again for free.

Are you sure? So if I go to AppStore and re-dowload it, even though it says I will be charged $6.99, it will download it for free?

That seems kind of weird...

Send a message via AIM to nrowensby

When you click on buy and use the same iTunes username and password that you bought them with the first time, it will popup and say "You have already bought this, will you like to download it again for free?"

I know because I did this when I purchased the apps on my JB 1st Gen and redownloaded them on my new 3G

OK, thanks for the advice! Actually, though, the apps just appeared after a day or so... I guess that Springboard caches the apps you have, and I had to wait until that cache was updated.
