I already did this and tested in 4 iphone classic. For 3G this will work also, just download a custom 2.1 Firmware specifically for ur device/3g firmware and follow the instructions. (3g - posted on 2nd page )



1. DOWNLOAD a customize 2.1 Firmware for iphone classic here

2. USE ITUNES 8 and let your iphone be detected (even it is 1.1.2 or 1.1.1)

3.SHIFT + RESTORE then choose the customize FIRMWARE 2.1 you downloaded.

VIOLA & Dance (optional) ;-)

note: NO NEED to be on DFU mode or else there will be an error. I never had an error for the 4 iphone i upgraded using this process.

Now if there will be an error use winpwn and follow the instruction, let winpwn make ur iphone to be on DFU mode then if it is now ready for restoring (with the logo of winpwn restore mode) instead of using the FW made by winpwn use the firmware 2.1 that i mentioned above (step1) thru itunes 8

if you want to use Yellowsn0w to unlock your 3G, you cannot use the cfw 2.2 you need to restore to the official 2.2 fw and then quicpwn to jailbreak after that download and install/run yellosno0w to unlock. Also make sure you remove your piggy back sim before restoring to the official fw-->from AWS3YA

let me get this correct, I wouldnt know how to fix it if I bricked it, so I want to make sure I understand.

I have 1.1.3 unlocked, activated and jailbroken, so I download one of those firmwares from that website onto my computer.

Then hook up to itunes 8.0, recognize the phone. Then press shift+restore and select the firmware I downloaded. Then I am done? Nothing else is required...No coding or programming of any kind, correct? I can use the phone as normal as I do now?

all appstore apps will work on 2.1 cfw, both of them have Cydia and Installer by default they are almost identical in what is included in the bundle

yes, you can just shift+restore and look for the cfw and wait it wil reboot unlocked/jailbroken

Ok i have downloaded 2 CFW's from willdavid's post... got iTunes 8..backed up my contacts .... wht next? Below im writing my understanding of what i have to do to have a phone working of 2.1 firmware which would be Jailbroken/ Unlocked(work with any sim carrier) and have cydia n installer

1) Connect phone to iTunes 8
2) Click Shift + Restore and select my custom firmware.
3) WAit patienty till my phone springs to life

is that it ? or do i need something more?

as i told you 4 iphone i made with this process, from other website a lot of people alreadyhave a successful upgrade.

you can upgrade directly as i mentioned in the above instructions and it will unlocked/jailbroken as i mentioned in the subject.

cycorder is already there a free videorecorder. snapture im not sure

the phantom cfw is currently downloading and then I am crossing my fingers, well see how it goes....

all went well, not I just have to remember my wifi keys, bummer....

heres a q about the itunes. Now it says there is another iPhone connected, should it

1. set up as a new iphone
2. restore from previous name?

I would naturally assume the previous, but I dont want it to "restore" it, I just want to resync all the songs and settings

I think you should set up as new iPhone because Cydia moves some storage space and prior settings may not be compatible.

It worked like a charm. I had a unlocked/jailbroken 1.1.3 with Ziphone. I downloaded that file and upgraded my itunes to 8.0. Now I have v2.1 with AppStore and all the other features working. Thanks a lot!!!
