Not much changes with the 2.2.1 upgrade but here you go:

For 3G with out AT&T contract 3G_Hacktivated CFW

and this one for AT&T Tied up units 3G_CFW for Telco locked units

I've upgraded me and my friends' 2g iphone already to custom 2.2 firmware --- my girlfriend is getting an iphone 3g next week from rogers --- should I get the custom 2.2.1 firmware upgrade or stick to 2.2? also if I were to upgrade, which link should I use because I want to use the right package. I don't know the difference between "sim solutions" and the others --- so I'm a little confused

you need to run quicpwn to fix the Cydia crashing issue, you'll need the Official firmware 2.2 and quicpwn 2.2 and lastly boot loaders 3.9 and 4.6 to run quicpwn. I posted a tweaked version of cfw 2.2 with no more Cydia crashing, please search the threads for it.

why not go all the way and unlock that 3g to use any network provider

Search for yellowsn0w software unlock from this site or my new favorite snego!vik (3 second unlock) but you have to be on firmware 2.2 for this to work, Do not UPGRADE that 3g to 2.2.1.

both unlock works with 2.2 firmware, you need to jailbreak it first with quickpwn then download and run yellowsn0w thru Cydia.

snegovik works with out wifi, depending on your OS (mac or win) download snegovik in your pc, connect iphone 2.2 run quicpwn to jailbreak after the process is done and itunes detected your iPhone run snegovik (dn't blink) it takes 3 secs. only, it will tell you to reboot at that's it remove the Rogers or AT&T simcard put Tmobile and you'll be surprised it is unlocked already.

Ypu did not mention if this is 2G or 3G iphone, but you can try Quickpwn to jailbreak you iphone even on this 2.30.03 baseband.

I have the 2g iphone though... do you have the CFW for that one? i'm running tmobile on your CFW for 2.2 right now...but do you h ave one for 2.2.1

Let me brief you first, I am using, I guess, unlocked/jailbroken iPhone 3G. On the day I baught it, I updated it through iTunes and it went onto the 'Emergency Call' mode and also said that Insert the valid Sim Card. It was unlocked/opened by a shopkeeper thus don't know how and by which tools. Now, I came to know about various methods to use firmware updates without getting the phone locked by iTunes.

I tried to restore and update through iTunes by clicking Shift Key and selecting the fiemware 2.2 (I downloaded it) but in both try a msg came that iTunes can't do it. At the same time on the screen of my phone a Penguin comes and 'iPhoneLinux.org' is written below.

Thanks to QuickPwn 2.2-1 which said click and hold the Sleep & Home button for 15 sec and the phone started again as usual.

Now, with all this information, can you guide me to update/upgrade my phone to 2.2 where I also can use any GSM SIM and add any application (Is it unlock and jailbreak?).

In the system the Version is 2.0.2 (5C1) & Modem Firmware is 04.05.04_G

Please help me!!!

Here's what you need to do.
1. Download firmware 2.2 (not 2.2.1) for 3G ( lotsa sites for this, just needs googling )
2. Download Quickpwn 2.2 (look in this site for links)
3. Restore your iPhone to 2.2 firmware, let iTunes detect your iPhone after the restore
4. Run Quickpwn to jailbreak
5. Connect to your wifi and open Cydia, download Yellowsn0w ( you might have to add the repo source for Cydia)
6. Run yellowsn0w
7. Reboot when asked
8. your are done

for 2G it is quite safe to just go ahead and update to fw 2.2.1 thru iTunes, since it wont change the baseband. Then you just need quickpwn to jaibreak, your unlock should not be touched.
