If you have ssh installed and enabled then use putty to connect to your iphone
login as root/alpine
execute the following command:
apt-get install cydia

If you are using WINSCP then goto COMMANDS on top, terminal, there you can type your command.

Easier way than explaining how to use commands on ******* cyberduck:
1) SSH Terminal.app to /Applications
2) Respring iPod
3) Open MobileTerminal, and type this:
su
alpine
apt-get remove cydia (to be safe)
Yes, do as I say!
apt-get install cydia

for future reference, you have terminal on your mac. All you need to do is type in ssh root@ip adress, and you're in your phone.

1. ssh into the ipod touch/iphone...
2. grab the package from attachement
3. decompres package
4. place in the / directory "aka root directory"
5. type and run "dpkg -i /cydia.deb"
6. respring

This used to work for me.
When I tried it this time I got a dependency error and it failed to configure properly.

same thing happened to me, still looking for a fix.
It seems that cydia didn't fully uninstall and now i am stuck in limbo.

Thanks StealthBravo! That worked, but through my own ineptitude I made it all worse

When loading up Cydia it warned of the bad installation of MobileSubstrate and prompted to force remove or ignore, highlighting force remove. While doing it, it warned reinstalling would be a better idea (too late!). Anything dependant on MobileSubstrate, including Settings for the Extended Preferences addon I had enabled this afternoon then wouldn't load.
The kicker is that at that exact moment I went over my download cap, so I've given up and restored. Probably not bad to start fresh anyway
