I just had to reinstall cydia tonight to fix some issues I was having tring to buy an app from cydia and here is all I had to do to fix it.
SSH to my iPhone, then issue the following commands.
wget http://apt.saurik.com/debs/cydia_1.0.2953-59_iphoneos-arm.deb dpkg -i cydia_1.0.2953-59_iphoneos-arm.deb
After that everything was working good.

Hmm - I need to reinstall Cydia after it stopped working. I really don't want to re- jailbreak, unlock etc etc so this method might be my best shot.
So I know how to SSH into my phone BUT am not sure about using these commands. I did try clicking on open terminal and typing the first command BUT it said 'wget http://apt.saurik.com/debs/cydia_1.0...deb'failed with return code 127 and error message -sh: line 70: wget: command not found'
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
I also tried to open a session in Putty but it said c: \program files\PuTTY\PuTTY.exe not found - is this not part of WinSCP ?
EDIT: I found putty here - http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html - so installed it and logged in..
but I tried typing "apt-get install cydia" but that said command not found.

in the end I did a full reinstall of everything.
BTW you can install redsnow over the top of everything and not have to re-unlock. - Although this didn't solve MY problem.

I used this method and it worked fine!!
NOTE: Please goto the site : Index of /debs/ and download the latest cydia version on ur PC
Then copy it to the "/" directory of iphone (use WinSCP or something) and then execute command: dpkg -i <name of file downloaded>
Thanks me if u find it helpful!!

In basic terms it lets you see and change files within your iphone a bit like windows explorer or FTP.

how can you delete a terminal command? I unsuccessfully tried to install "enablemms" by first sshing into my phone, then drag and drop mmms2g.deb into phone and then at the terminal type in dpkg-1mms2g.deb. when it didn't work I went back into phone and deleted mms2g.deb but apparantly this didn't delete dpkg-1mms2g.deb.. now everytime I try to run the new and improved enable I get error message so assume that dpkg is still hiding out there somewhere..anyone help me get rid of it??

got my 3gs iphone, 3.1.2.
run blackra1n and it works accept need to run blackra1n if phone switch. this still bearable.
lately tried pwnagetool 3.1.4. it doesn't work.
i think stupid me to restore from itune, not the 'option + restore'.
try blackra1n again. i think work but the blackrain drop does not appear. i (just) think the jailbreak was successful because when i switch off, the recovery mode turns on. than blackra1n again, and able to start up. but the same problem persists, the blackrain drop not appearing.
HELP: how can i bring back the blackrain drop? or install cydia?
(note that i do not have ssl, whatsoever.)
btw, supposed to run blackrain on my mac, but everytime i double click on the blackrain it just won't start. running mac os x 10.5.8, itune 9.0.2 (25).
hence, got to run blackrain on pc.

Wasn't sure if I should start a new thread since this is related.
My cydia kept reorganizing then respringing. Used redsn0w 0.9.4 to reinstall cydia which worked great. Does this mean I can't see manage or see my packages I installed with cydia anymore? The list just has the default cydia packages in it. Thanks

Yea I already did all that a few times but the packages already installed never showed back up in cydia. So I just restored since I was having battery troubles anyways.

Anybody trying the commands like "apt-get" needs to install Aptitude from cydia first, else you gonna get "command not found" error. Aptitude was a part of 2.2.1 but its not included in 3.x , so you have to install it from cydia first to make those commands workiPhone 4
Firmware : iOS4
Carrier : Softbank (Japan)
Jailbroken using Jailbreakme

Thanks but,I never got the command not found error but i did get it fixed. what i did was tried apt-get install cydia, apt- get remove cydia, apt-get upgrade cydia, and apt-get upgrade and none of them worked so i downloaded a mobile terminal .deb file and unpacked it but every time no matter what command i ran it got stuck at the last step so i resprung while it was supposidly doing something and when i went to my last page to see if it worked, cydia and rock came back and mobile terminal was there and one more time thanks!
